Mix 1/4 teaspoon of non iodized sea salt with 8 oz (1 cup) of distilled water and stir until dissolved. If you do not wish to mix your own solution, we do have a pre mixed version called H2Ocean available for purchase. Saturate a clean disposable paper towel, piece of gauze, or a Q-Tip in the sea salt mixture and cleanse the outside of the jewelry thoroughly. If using a product made of cotton such as a Q-Tip, be sure no cotton fibers become attached to the jewelry while cleansing. If this does occur remove fibers immediately using clean fingers. If the jewelry is a captive bead ring, once it is cleansed, you may rotate the jewelry to work solution inside of piercing.
For oral piercings it is also necessary to cleanse the inside of the mouth/piercing as well as the outside. We recommend the use of an alcohol free mouth wash: a few good brands to look for are Biotene or Act. Asylum Studios also sells an alcohol free rinse for your convenience. Be sure to avoid any oral rinse that has a high alcohol content such as Listerine or Scope. Use alcohol free rinse any time you eat, drink, or smoke. If you smoke, try to cut back as much as possible for at least the first two weeks.
